Gasoline Climbed Again—What Texas Buyers Should Actually Budget

Gasoline climbed again—what Houston and East Texas buyers should actually budget

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update (release dated September 22, 2026) shows another weekly climb for the week ending September 21: U.S. regular gasoline averaged $4.478 (up 15.9 cents from $4.319), Texas regular averaged $3.929, and Houston regular printed $3.863. U.S. on-highway diesel averaged $6.529, up 24.4 cents week over week.

Those are EIA retail averages—not your approval, not a Kramer quote, and not a reason to invent a payment. They are a reminder that the sticker payment is only part of owning the car.

Payment fit is not the same as budget fit

I help Houston and East Texas shoppers at Kramer Autoplex with good credit, bad credit, thin credit, or no credit. We shop each application across a wide lender network. I do not invent lender names, lender counts, or approval rates. A same-day standing answer on where you qualify and what the monthly looks like is typical, not guaranteed.

When fuel is rising, a useful buyer habit is:

1. Price the commute. Rough miles × current Houston/Texas pump levels before you stretch for a thirstier body style.

2. Ask for the full structure—price before trade, term, rate path, and any negative equity—not just the payment that “fits” after a soft trade.

3. Leave room for insurance and maintenance. Fuel is the visible line; it is not the only one.

First step stays light

The first step on StevenSellsCars.com is name plus phone or email—about 20 seconds—and no credit check yet. The full application (which does involve a credit check) comes later. Live inventory is on the site; I will not invent stock or prices here. Free delivery is available anywhere in Texas, with nationwide delivery outside Texas.

Soft next step when you want a real standing answer: [/start](/start).

Soft Kramer note, no hard sell

If you are comparing stores, talk to people who will explain the numbers in plain English—payment, rate, term, and how fuel and insurance change the true monthly. That is the culture I work in at Kramer Autoplex; it is not a promise of a special rate.

Takeaway: EIA’s September 22 weekly put Houston regular at $3.863 and climbing. Budget the pump and the payment before you commit—then start at [/start](/start) when you want a soft first step with no credit check yet.
